Matta Wagnest was born in Styria, Austria in 1964. She's a conceptual artist and musician who creates installations, canvases, and sculptures.

After a long hiatus, she returned to the art scene in 2013 with her series of paintings Soplo and won the City of Vienna Prize in the same year.
