The Art of Performance” Chamber of Wonder celebrates Swarovski’s long-standing collaboration with Hollywood’s greatest entertainers and artists. Discover iconic stage and film outfits that radiate with Swarovski crystals. Curator Michael Schmidt and set designer Derek McLane bring Hollywood glamour to Tyrol. Michael Schmidt was spoiled for choice when selecting pieces for the exhibition: “There are an infinite number of ways that artists can express themselves using Swarovski crystals. It’s truly incredible how many spectacular moments throughout cultural history that Swarovski has helped shape. Swarovski crystals always add an element of sparkle.”
The exhibition pieces are displayed on rotation, and guests can currently enjoy costumes and accessories worn by Lady Gaga, Elton John, Beyoncé, Madonna, Dita Von Teese, and many more.
US fashion and jewelry designer Michael Schmidt has become a worldwide sensation thanks to his use of a variety of innovative materials and techniques.
Known for his elegant yet unusual designs and accessories, his clients include Madonna, Cher, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas, Janet Jackson, Debbie Harry, Dita Von Teese, Dolly Parton, Tina Turner, Steven Tyler, and Ozzy Osbourne. His designs have featured in books and photographs by renowned photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritts, Greg Gorman, Steven Meisel, Francesco Scavullo, Steven Klein, and Matthew Rolston.
His creations have also appeared on numerous world tours, album covers, and in music videos and movies.
Derek McLane, born in Oklahoma, USA in 1958, is a multi-award-winning set designer for theater, film, and television. Having designed more than 350 sets, he is one of the most influential scenographers of his generation. He designed Broadway sets for shows including Moulin Rouge, Variations with Jane Fonda (Tony Award), A Soldier’s Play (Tony nomination), How to Succeed… with Daniel Radcliffe as well as productions with Al Pacino and Robin Williams.
McLane has also made his mark off Broadway and on television (including at the Oscars and in NBC musicals). He is the Chairman of the Board of The New Group Theatre and has received many accolades, including two Tony Awards, two Emmys, two Obies, and multiple Art Directors Guild Awards.
