Thomas Bayrle was born in Berlin, Germany in 1937 and studied at the Werkkunstschule in Offenbach. He lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, where he is a professor at the renowned Städelschule art school, which is affiliated with the Städel Museum.
His works can be seen in solo and group exhibitions all over the world, most recently in France, Germany, and Switzerland.

Thomas Bayrle has been exploring the motif of the autobahn since the 1980s. In his sculptures, loops of model-like road formations are laid adjacent to, on top of, and opposite each other, using the technique of “looping,” in other words constant repetition of the same motif.
