A utopia full of hope
South Korean artist Lee Bul’s “Into Lattice Sun” echoes the visions of early 20th century architects in this bold, metropolitan utopia. Bright morning light welcomes you into this Chamber of Wonder, where a landscape of mirrors and spatial illusions guides your journey toward the warm embrace of golden evening light. Lee Bul invites guests to reflect on themselves and their position within the room.
The artist collaborated with crystal experts in Wattens to create eight new crystal cuts for this Chamber of Wonder.
Lee Bul was born in Yeongju, South Korea in 1964 and studied sculpture at Hongik University in Seoul. Her interventions have repeatedly sparked lively discussions in the international art world. Her works often center on the audience, either via interacting with or becoming an integral part of her installations. Utopia often features as a theme in her work, society's desire to create a better society and its failure to do so.
Lee Bul is one of the most important contemporary artists of her generation. Her works were showcased in the Korean Pavilion at the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999 as well as in the international exhibition curated by Harald Szeemann.
