Hans Magnus Enzensberger, born 1929 in the Allgäu region, is a writer, essayist, author of radio plays, publisher, translator, and editor – and also one of the most important German poets after World War II. He became famous particularly due to his critical essays.
Even today, Enzensberger remains a highly respected voice in Germany’s political discourse; he has received many awards for his discerning opinions, including the Georg Büchner Award, the Spanish Prince of Asturias Award, and the Danish Sonning Award.
Eyebright consists of glass panels placed one behind the other. A passage from the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany is etched into the panels. The text can only be read, however, when you look at the panels from the right perspective.
