Barry Flanagan was born in Prestatyn, Wales in 1941 and studied and later taught at Saint Martin’s School of Art in London. He is regarded as one of the most prominent figures of ‘Pataphysics – a playful pseudoscience devoted to imaginary solutions. He represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1982.

Flanagan died in 2009.
