Erwin Wurm
Erwin Wurm was born in Bruck an der Mur, Austria in 1954 and studied at Mozarteum University Salzburg, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna as well as at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He lives and works in Limberg, Austria.
He is one of Austria's most celebrated and internationally renowned sculptors and his works have been showcased in exhibitions and museums worldwide. He was awarded the Grand Austrian State Prize in 2013.
The hallmark of Erwin Wurm’s oeuvre lies in his reimagining of everyday objects. Here, the artist transforms the iconic VW bus – a defining symbol of 1960s counterculture – into an enduring work of art. In Fat Bus, Erwin Wurm exposes the paradox between our relationship with food and obsession with physical perfection, as the bus embodies a condition that affects a growing portion of the population – being overweight.
